Publication and Exhibition in Japan for Neville Brody
during February 2009 including three major events in
Japan for the internationally renowned art director
and graphic designer. As part of their world graphic
design series ggg Japan will launch a book dedicated
to and designed by Brody (the first UK designer to be
given the honour).
The publication is intended to give an insight into
the graphic world he has created. The publication blends
a rich mix of work including iconic pieces for Stiff
and Fetish records, The Face magazine, Arena and ground
breaking projects for publication Fuse. Much of the
work in the book will be new to readers and include
recent posters for the Wolfsonian Institute (Miami)
and Akademie der Künste (Berlin).
The
work is complimented by an essay on Brody by designer,
author and editor Adrian Shaughnessy offering an insight
into the impact and influence Brody has on graphic design
and visual communications as well as charting the course
of Brody’s career to date.
Opening
on 31st of January until 10th February an exhibition
will accompany the launch of the book at the Rocket
Gallery in the Harajuku district of Toyko, the hub of
Toyko’s youth fashion mecca and shopping district.
Curated by Brody, the exhibition will be a collage of
past, recent and new work.
To open the proceedings, on January 28th Brody has been
invited to speak at the British Council in Japan which
will offer a rare opportunity to hear him talk about
his work, passions, unique perspectives and inspirations.
On
the projects in Japan Brody comments;
“ I’m thrilled to be in Japan with the launch
of these three projects. It’s a great opportunity
for me to show new work and I am honored to be invited
to be part of the ggg series, show my work at Rocket
gallery and be invited to the British Council in Japan
to talk.”
A limited edition poster designed by Brody to celebrate
the exhibition will be available for purchase Rocket
in Tokyo. The ggg book will also be available in March
directly from Research Studios London and selected retailers.
